Edinburgh—Aurora Del Rio (MFA 2013) was featured in the exhibition Contextiles-isation on view at Kalopsia Gallery from August 1 through August 31, 2014.
Contextiles-isation presented textiles within a larger framework of contemporary art by juxtaposing fabric and weaving with performance in order to highlight and compare the conceptual nature of both mediums. Featuring artists from around the world, Contextiles-isation explored the connection between working with woven material and working with the body as a means to show how both artistic practices communicate ideas about collective and individual identities.
Based in Berlin, Aurora Del Rio is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice involves performance, painting and writing. She studied painting at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Bologna (BFA 2007) before matriculating at Transart. Del Rio’s works are exhibited widely internationally.
Contextiles-isation took place alongside the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, an annual arts event that accommodates any maker at any venue in the city.
Kalopsia Gallery is operated by Kalopsia, a contemporary textiles collective based in the United Kingdom.
