London—Transart faculty member and advisor Dr. Michael Bowdidge will speak at the “Higher Education & the Creative Economy” conference taking place at King’s College London (Strand Campus) this Monday June 23 and Tuesday June 24, 2014.

The conference is hosted by the research network “Beyond the Campus: Connecting Knowledge and Creative Practice Communities Across Higher Education and the Creative Economy,” which seeks to enhance understanding of how collaborations, partnerships and exchanges are built and to consider how they can have greater impact on the cultural capacity of different places.

Dr. Bowdidge will address mutually transformative practices in higher education and arts outreach at a panel starting at noon on June 24. See the full conference program here.

Dr. Michael Bowdidge is an artist, researcher and educator who works with found objects, images and sound. He earned an undergraduate degree in Fine Art from Middlesex Polytechnic (now Middlesex University), London in 1989 and completed his doctoral research at the University of Edinburgh in 2012. His PhD investigated the possibilities and context of contemporary sculptural assemblage considered in relation to the later philosophy of Ludwig Wittgenstein and the writings of Mikhail Bakhtin. Dr. Bowdidge has taught at Transart since 2008 and currently supervises post-graduate and doctoral students while also playing an active role as a consultant and workshop artist at WHALE Arts Agency in Edinburgh and Slumgothic in Lincolnshire. Dr. Bowdidge exhibits regularly nationally and internationally and is represented by Bendintheriver.
