On May 4, 2014 Transart faculty member Nicolás Dumit Estévez will participate in the International Arts for Peace Festival launch ceremony and event at Queen Elizabeth Stadium in Hong Kong.

A two-month long series of events, including a parade, conference, artist residency and exhibition, the International Arts for Peace Festival celebrates and recommits to goals set forth by UNESCO’s Second World Conference on Arts Education held in Seoul, the Republic of Korea in 2010. The Seoul Agenda advocates high quality arts education for children, youth and life-long learners of all ages with the belief in the potential of art to invigorate educational systems as well as achieve critical social and cultural objectives.

The ceremony on May 4 will include a series of performances by national and international artists including Estévez, an interdisciplinary artist working in performance and mixed media installations that often critique stereotypes of Latinos through the satirical use of food and clothing. An interactive program, the event will engage an estimated audience of 3,000 people and reflect a commitment to building and sustaining peace through the arts.

Organized by UNESCO arts, culture and education organizations in Australia, Canada, Germany and Singapore along with the International Network for Research in Arts Education, the 2014 International Arts for Peace Festival marks the third and second anniversaries of UNESCO’s Hong Kong Association’s Peace for All Programme and International Arts Education Week, respectively, as well as the centennial anniversary of the beginning of World War I.
