Amsterdam, Netherlands — Join Transart faculty member Alanna Lockward from 12 pm to 5 pm on Sunday June 22, 2014 at Framer Framed for “Decolonial AestheTics/AestheSis,” a closing event for the 2014 edition of BLACK EUROPE BODY POLITICS (BE.BOP): “SPIRITUAL REVOLUTIONS AND THE SCRAMBLE FOR AFRICA.”

Curated by Lockward, BE.BOP is an annual international and interdisciplinary platform for moving-image and performance art concerned with the politics of black European (“Afropean”) identities and demonstrating a “decolonial diasporic aesthetic” in critique of white European hegemonic notions of beauty and representation.

On view last month BE.BOP 2014, “SPIRITUAL REVOLUTIONS AND THE SCRAMBLE FOR AFRICA,” featured exhibitions, performances, screenings and talks about pre-colonial African spirituality and post-colonial “Afropean” lived experience at Ballhaus Naunynstraße in Berlin and at venues throughout Copenhagen including the University of Copenhagen, The Danish Art Workshops, and Nikolaj Kunsthal.

“Decolonial AestheTics/AestheSis” will include an introduction by Lockward, screenings of selected works from “SPIRITUAL REVOLUTIONS AND THE SCRAMBLE FOR AFRICA” and a round-table discussion. The event will conclude with a performance by Patricia Kaersenhout.

Alanna Lockward is a writer, critic and curator from the Dominican Republic and based in Berlin. She is the founding director of ArtLabour Archives, a cultural organization producing situation-specific art events and exhibitions worldwide since 1997, as well as associate curator of the post-migrant theatre space Ballhaus Naunynstraße and general manager of the Transnational Decolonial Institute. A Transart guest lecturer, Lockward teaches critical race theory, decolonial aesthetics and black feminism.
