Vienna, Austria — A solo exhibition of work by Eva Petrič (MFA 2010) opened this week at Bildraum 07.
Eva Petrič: 21st Century Angel presents photography, video and installation that considers the human immune system as a type of guardian angel and this angel as a symbol of both destruction and healing. The exhibition features a large-scale work made of delicate crocheted blankets representing, according to the artist, a “collection of residues whispering, murmuring, vibrating within tissue membranes, luring this angel, dissected in us to protect, shelter, defend.” Eva Petrič: 21st Century Angel is on view through September 3, 2014.
Born in 1983 in Kranj, Slovenia, Eva Petrič is an interdisciplinary artist working in photography, painting, video, performance, sound and the written word. Her artistic practice focuses on defining space, whether physical or mental, real or imaginary, through the creation of atmospheres. Petrič lives and works in Vienna, where she studied art and psychology at Webster University Vienna (BA 2005) before matriculating at Transart.
Along with Bildraum 01, Bildraum 07 is a newly designed exhibition space presenting monthly installments of work by contemporary visual artists and designers.
