Berlin — Current Transart MFA candidate Martin Budny hosts open studios from 2pm to 7pm Saturday August 9, 2014.
Employed as a flight attendant, Martin Budny uses his work experience as a departure point to explore notions of place, personality vis-à-vis consumerism, and alienation in Study towards a Service Personality.
A “radical simplification of a lived experience,” Study towards a Service Personality is a mixed media installation featuring archival materials that present the occupational as the artistic. Inspired by art historian Julia Bryan-Wilson, Budny investigates what it means to be physically, mentally, and emotionally occupied by one’s work as well as what can be achieved through “artistic labor.”
Also on Saturday August 9, Martin Budny is featured in Intermezzo #3, the third and final show at Mila Kunstgalerie featuring Transart artists earning their MFA degree during the institute’s 2014 summer residency.
Join Martin Budny for his artist talk at 7pm Monday August 11 at Uferstudios.
